Summary: Staff requests authorization to submit the U.S. Department of Education's Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) grant for Mt. Diablo High and Ygnacio Valley High Schools. The SLC program awards discretionary grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) to support the implementation of SLCs and activities to improve student academic achievement in large public high schools with enrollments of 1,000 or more students. If awarded, the district will receive 4 million dollars over five years.
Funding: Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
Fiscal Impact The grant is for 4 million dollars over five years. There is no impact to the general fund.
Recommendation: Approve submission of the grant and acceptance if awarded.
