Summary: Physical Education (PE) 9, renamed Course 1, and Personal Fitness Level 1 were revised to better align high school Physical Education classes with California Education Code. Previously, PE 9 did not cover all eight mandatory components of the high school physical education curriculum. In order to ensure students have access to all eight components, curriculum has been updated and the course name changed so it can be accessible to all grade levels. This will support the scheduling of students who were, for a variety of circumstances, not able to take Course 1 in their ninth-grade year. Personal Fitness Level 1 was also revised to increase the focus on personal fitness plans based on physical fitness testing data and to better align with the goal of having Mt. Diablo students passing the physical fitness tests.
