Summary:
|
The State Board of Education (SBE) provided direction during the November 2013 meeting that LEA’s in Program Improvement, Year 3 (LEA PI 3) will have, as part of the corrective actions to be assigned January 2014, a requirement to provide professional development related to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) during the 2013-2014 school year. Additionally, LEA’s will be required to spend an amount up to 10% of their Title I funds to achieve this. This professional development is to increase awareness and understanding of the main concepts of CCSS, potential areas of integration of CCSS concepts and skills with current curriculum materials, and implications for improved rigor in effective instructions, student engagement, and depth of knowledge. We are bringing a contract to the Board for Pivot Learning Partners to include support with addressing the direction from SBE via implementing/modifying our current 3 year CCSS plan, direct support to sites regarding implementation of CCSS based instruction, creation of and support with 3 elementary Teacher Symposium Days and 6 trainings for Social Studies teachers (secondary), access to CCSS developed materials and intellectual property designed by Pivot Consultants.
