Summary: Mt. Diablo CARES After School Program requests approval to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano to provide families at ten Mt. Diablo CARES After School Programs access to weekly delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables. These schools include; Fair Oaks in Pleasant Hill, Cambridge, Meadow Homes and Ygnacio Valley Elementary and Oak Grove Middle in Concord and Bel Air, Delta View, Rio Vista, Shore Acres Elementary and Riverview Middle in Bay Point.
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is requesting to continue its collaboration with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) in order to expand children's access to fresh produce in the community of Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Bay Point. This highly successful and valuable collaboration has been in operation since its pilot in 2007 and has been replicated across the state of California. The Food Bank of Contra Costa has provided 378,470 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables annually valued at $605,552 for CARES students and their families. This resource is invaluable to the health and well-being of MDUSD families.
Funding: Resources are provided by the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
Fiscal Impact The MOU is for the 2011-12 school year. There is no unrestricted general fund contribution requirement. Funding from the After School Education & Safety (ASES) grant will support these services. Program code 3871.
