Summary: Staff requests approval to ratify submission of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a Farm to School Implementation Grant in the amount of $100,000 over a 24-month period from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022. Grant funds will be used to further educational priorities around science, health, and wellness for elementary students. Specifically, funds will be used to: provide experiential school garden and nutrition lessons; hold two new annual professional learning workshops on “Growing Healthy Kids” to allow collaboration among Garden Educators, Lead Teachers, Instructional Support, After-School Program and Food Services staff; create and hold “in-school” field trips to the cafeteria for 4th grade students at 10 schools; and create and install educational signage for school cafeterias. Partial funding for Garden Educators and the Project Director are also included. This grant will continue to support the districts efforts to engage students in hands-on learning about Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), health and wellness.

Fiscal Impact The grant is for $100,000 for over two years. There is no unrestricted general fund contribution requirement. There is 25% in-kind match which will come 0930-LCFF, community partnerships and donations.
