Summary: Staff is requesting to amend the current Bay Area Community Resources contract to accommodate an increase in attendance at El Monte Elementary and Mt. Diablo High School CARES After School Programs during the 2010-11 school year and summer programs. This increase occurred for three reasons:
1. In January 2011, midway through the fiscal year, El Monte was awarded a second after school grant (the After School Education & Safety Grant) and was able to serve an additional 50 students. El Monte also receives the 21st Century Community Learning Centers after school grant.
2. The Summer After School Program attendance will be higher than projected for the 2010-11 contract year since El Monte will be begin their summer program in June 2011 rather than July. The El Monte Summer After School Program will serve 220 students from 3 school sites (El Monte, Holbrook and Wren Avenue) to meet the needs of the community and accommodate students from Holbrook Elementary and Wren Ave Elementary whose programs are not operational for the Summer of 2011 due to school closure and Measure C construction.
3. There was an increase in student attendance in the Mt. Diablo High School after school program. An additional 50 students attended the program each day during the school year.

We are requesting to amend the 2010-11 BACR contract and increase the contract amount by $65,000 to accommodate the increases in student attendance and related staff costs.
Funding: Funding is provided by the California Department of Education’s After School Education and Safety (ASES) grant and the U.S. Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant.
Fiscal Impact The amended contract is for $65,000. There is no unrestricted general fund contribution requirement. Program code 3871, 3156, 3165, 3160.
Recommendation: Approve authorization of contract.
