Summary:
|
Apple, Inc. provides unique, proprietary software, hardware, services, and support. For many of Mt. Diablo Unified School District’s programs, Apple products have unique functionality that is not available on a competitive product, or provide essential functionality at a lower cost than competitive platforms. Apple, Inc. does not permit third-party distributors to sell to educational institutions. Instead, the company sells directly to educational institutions, applying standard education and volume discounts. As a sole provider of their products, Apple, Inc. does not participate in competitive bids for public agencies. Therefore, Mt. Diablo Unified School District must designate Apple, Inc. as a sole source provider to continue to purchase products and services. Diablo Unified School District has been tied to Glendale Unified School District's purchasing agreement for pricing on Apple products. Glendale's agreement was recently renewed, which requires signatures from Mt. Diablo Unified School District (Glendale USD_Consent Form & Agreements.pdf). Staff recommendation is to “piggyback” on the Glendale Unified School District by executing the attached Piggyback Consent Form.
