Subject: 18.2 Proposal to Establish an Opportunity Youth Center (OYC) for Non-Attending Youth

Summary: District presented the Opportunity Youth Center in the Monument Corridor for Non-attending youth, aged 16-24 to the Board on 9/11/17. This center will focus on disengaged youth and will have the following educational goals: credit recovery, tutoring, mentoring, guidance counseling and connection to pathways. In addition the following employment goals would be utilized: career exploration, linked to a career pathway, work experience, internships and employment searches. The Youth Center flow chart and the proposed staffing are attached and provide more details.
Funding: Through MDUSD's Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act Grant (WIOA), budget code 549-3977, $15,000; Adult Education's ASE & LCFF budget codes 549-7923 & 529-0930 $64,000; and Assistant Superintendent's LCFF Supplemental, budget code 519-0930 $70,000
Fiscal Impact Initially, $149,000.00 to the budgets noted under funding.
Recommendation: Approve the proposed pilot of the Opportunity Youth Center.
