Summary: Solar Project Progress Report – Summer Solar Academy – Launch of the SunPower Solar Alliance Program for the MDUSD Community. SunPower Corporation, the selected provider of the District’s solar project, will provide a brief presentation on the following items:

(a) Solar Project Progress Report. SunPower is underway with solar projects at each of the schools at the District. Forty of the schools are completed, with the balance expected to be completed by the November. SunPower will provide a brief report on the progress and performance of the project to date.
(b) Summer Solar Academy. On July 30 through August 3, in collaboration with Joanne Durkee and the Contra Costa Economic Partnership (CCEP), SunPower sponsored a Summer Solar Academy at Mount Diablo High School. Four teachers from the District (Ryan Leuschen, Gregory Lyons, Maria Fletcher and Jasmin Mumford) helped plan and implement this Academy. Seventeen students at the District completed the academy, representing College Park High, Concord High, Mount Diablo High, Northgate High and Ygnacio Valley High. The Academy included field trips for the students to visit solar power systems installed at schools. A primary goal was to engage students through innovative technology, and motivate them to do well in their science, technology, engineering and mathematics schooling. By all accounts, the Academy was a great success. SunPower will provide information on the Academy.
(c) Launch of the SunPower Solar Alliance Program for the MDUSD Community. To build on its collaboration with MDUSD, on September 4th, SunPower will launch its Alliance Program for the MDUSD Community. For a limited time under this Program, if a household in the MDUSD community enrolled in the Alliance Program, then purchased a SunPower system, SunPower would make $500 donation, $250 would be paid to the United Mount Diablo Athletic Foundation and $250 would be paid to “Project Lead the Way”, with those proceeds dedicated to the Career Technology Education academy programs at MDUSD schools. The SunPower Alliance Program goals include increasing the use of renewable power in MDUSD communities, while raising funds in support of District schools. SunPower will provide information on how the MDUSD community can participate, and is requesting the District support in providing awareness of the Solar Alliance Program.
